If you’re building a featheredge fence and want to save time without compromising on strength or finish, we’ve got just the thing.

At Youngs, we now manufacture notched timber posts in-house – a practical alternative to traditional morticed posts. These are made specifically for featheredge fencing panels, and you won’t find them on the shelf at most fencing suppliers.

Why’s that useful? Let us explain.

What makes these posts different?

Instead of having to fit tenoned rails into mortices (which often involves a lot of trial and error on site), our posts come pre-notched to take standard rails. That means:

  • No need to cut mortices

  • No tenoning rails

  • Much quicker install time

Just slot the rails straight into the notches, fix them in place, and you’re ready to start boarding up.

Sizes to suit standard featheredge setups

We’ve designed two post lengths to match the most common fencing heights:

  • 2400mm long posts – for fences up to 1800mm high

  • 2700mm long posts – for fences up to 1950mm high

Add a 150mm gravel board at the bottom and you’ve got a clean, professional finish at either height.

All posts are 100x125mm, green treated to UC4 for ground contact, and built to last.

The full kit – or buy what you need

You can buy everything individually, or grab a full panel kit if that’s easier.

Each 2400mm-wide panel kit includes:

  • 1 x Notched Post (100x125, UC4 treated)

  • 3 x 38x86mm Weathered Rails (2400mm, UC4 treated)

  • 1 x 22x150mm Gravel Board (2400mm, UC4 treated)

  • 29 x 2ex 22x100 Featheredge Boards (1800mm or 1650mm high)

(Just a heads up – for a full fence run, you’ll need one extra post at the end.)

Why it works

  • Speeds up installation – no tenons, no mortices, no messing about

  • Tidy, consistent finish – notches line up your rails perfectly

  • Strong and long-lasting – everything’s UC4 treated and built for Kent weather

  • Flexible – we can manufacture for other heights if you need something different

Looking for something more rustic?

While our notched featheredge posts are made in-house, we also stock traditional chestnut post and rail fencing, which we source pre-cut from trusted local suppliers.

  • Locally sourced chestnut for a natural, rustic look

  • Posts are 2m long, and we stock options notched for either 2 rails or 3 rails

  • Rails available in 2m or 2.9m lengths to suit different layouts and runs

Chestnut is a popular choice for paddocks, countryside properties, and landscaping projects thanks to its strength, character, and low-maintenance nature.
